Alabama

I have wanted to learn about each state in United States. Let's go through all 50 in alphabetical order and learn something.

Alabama

Population = 4,557,808
Land Area = 50,744 square miles

I have been through Alabama a few times on the way to Florida. We stayed one time in Gulf Shores.

What I learned:

Alabama is the only state with all major natural resources needed to make iron and steel. It is also the largest supplier of cast-iron and steel pipe products.

The star blue quartz is the state's official gemstone.

Alabama became the 22nd state on December 14, 1819.

The Iron Bowl is a huge game between Alabama and Auburn. I hear it gets pretty ugly there. I believe Auburn has won the last seven games. Will Tubberville be able to run off the field holding up eight fingers this year? People in Alabama are crazy when it comes to football.

And some unusual laws I found:

  1. It is illegal to wear a fake moustache that causes laughter in church.
  2. Boogers may not be flicked into the wind.
  3. You may not have an ice cream cone in your back pocket at any time.
  4. It is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.
I don't about you, but I am glad for laws 2 and 4.
