Snake in the road

Me and the wife were driving home the other night and saw something shiny in the middle of the road. Out of curiosity, we had to back up and see. Well it was a snake. We got a good look at it when we got out of the car. After extensive research on the internet, we came to the conclusion it was a mud snake. Here is a photo. It is not the actual snake, just a random mud snake.
